How can local ecosystems be better equipped to address societal challenges? In the European NEST project, partners from six countries are exploring and experimenting with social innovation ecosystems. THRIVE contributes its expertise in community building and societal impact to help strengthen these ecosystems and accelerate meaningful change.
This project is co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme.
Social innovation exists everywhere—from grassroots initiatives to impact-driven start-ups. Yet, efforts often remain fragmented and lack structural support. Cities and regions struggle to connect key actors—government, academia, entrepreneurs, and citizens—into resilient ecosystems for sustainable change.
Within NEST, we map social innovation ecosystems in six European regions. We analyse strengths, gaps, and opportunities for stronger collaboration. In Rotterdam, THRIVE is investigating how social innovators can be better supported.
By comparing regions, we gain insight into what helps or hinders local ecosystem formation. These lessons not only strengthen existing ecosystems but also inform future initiatives.
Over the coming years, the NEST consortium will develop tools and frameworks to help ecosystem partners take action. THRIVE remains actively involved in knowledge sharing, community building, and engaging local initiatives.
