An artistic exploration of translating organizational impact data for a broader audience.
Organizations are eager to report on their impact. But the question is: does current reporting resonate with audiences? Does it motivate, inspire, and paint a complete picture? Impact is about the feelings we can convey to others. Should organizations not explore new forms of expression to enhance the impact of their impact data?
Through the Purpose Reporting project, THRIVE collaborated with artists to showcase the impact data of mission-driven organizations. The artists were given full creative freedom to depict and articulate organizational impact in alternative ways to conventional reporting. This approach added a connecting layer of meaning for stakeholders.
By letting artists interpret impact data, we uncovered a deeper dimension within the numbers. Artistic forms of reporting proved far more impactful than conventional data visualization. These creative approaches to impact data sparked more sentiment, engagement, and connection among audiences.
A second round of research is underway within the Purpose Reporting project. Together with artists and designers, we are further exploring optimal ways to communicate impact. We also continue to collaborate with organizations interested in using their datasets for state-of-the-art impact reporting.
